| The Finger Lakes Child Abuse Response Team provides a comprehensive and coordinated multidisciplinary response to child abuse. It all happens at one child-friendly facility so that a child who has been victimized only has to tell his or her story once. And then a coordinated team will provide health care, support, and police investigation from that one interview. What once took weeks can be accomplished in just a few hours. |
Just imagine a child-friendly room, decorated in soft colors with soft, child-sized chairs. A little 5-year-old boy comes in with one qualified forensic interviewer. He chooses where he wants to sit - where he'll be most comfortable - giving him at least a tiny sense of being able to control his world when he has just been victimized. What's happened to him should never happen to a 5-year-old!

Meanwhile, all other interested parties - child welfare, law enforcement, school and mental health professionals, medical personnel, legal resources, and other service providers - are behind two-way glass - and the little guy only has to tell his story one time - not five or six times to different strangers. |
